.::.Ketoh.::. ” I'm Freya of Green Zoldth.””Freya and Zoldth, then. I’ll be sure to remember. So, you are a Rider then. Must be nice having a bond, right? And don’t mind Hinuk, he just woke up on the left side of the bed today.”The male grinned, golden eyes trailing behind the younger lad, before he finally became lost in the sea of people. He walked over with Freya, meat dangling from his hand every now and then, moved to tempt the hatchlings. Still, he remained with the GreenRider and continued talking. Her company was actually good, or at least it was so far. ” If I wasn't so keen to the idea of Impressing a Firelizard, I'd let Zoldth have this meat.””If I had a firelizard for every time I heard that there wouldn’t be any left in Pern. But I do see your point of view, it’s just something we aren’t naturally used to doing I suppose. Still, so long as blood doesn’t make you want to throw up, you should be ok. Right? Plus, I’m sure you had your share of blood and meat when you impressed Zoldth.”” Are you a Candidate?””Why yes, yes I am.”As Myr came over with the weak looking Green the male blinked, watching the woman hand it over to the GreenRider and telling her to care for it. Well, he supposed it was reasonable -- and older, experienced, Rider would be more capable of making sure this flitter survived and grew to be a strong Green. Or as strong as the flitt could become. .::.Hinuk.::. Gold! A Gold had hatched! And a Bronze, too! Sapphire eyes darted about, looking for the location of his half-brother. Ketoh was there, not too far away, but the male seemed more busy chatting with the female than paying attention to the flitters. He’d show him! He’d impress the higher ranks, and then Ketoh would have to eat his words. Oh, he could just see the shocked look on the male’s face already! Mind set the boy grinned, dangling the most succulent piece of meat he could find in his hand in view of the Gold and Bronze. If he was lucky, he could impress one of them. If he was extremely lucky, maybe he could get both! Then again, being greedy was never good... Still, he really wanted to prove to Ketoh just how much better than him he was. After all, it wasn’t fair he got to stand on the Sands when the Hatching came and he couldn’t, simply because he was one turn too young. .::.Keizo.::. Well, there was no tempting that Bronze, though the male soon found the piece of meat missing from his finger tips either way. Turning to look down the albino drudge noticed the Brown at his feet, demanding more food. Well, he wasn’t a Bronze but he sure was one fine looking and handsome flitt either way. ”Come here, Chase. And watch the fingers.”The flitter complied, allowing himself to be picked before he continued to devour the meat the male offered him. Well, now he was one of the few drudges to actually own a flitter – and if being ghostly white with red eyes wasn’t enough to get him noticed by everyone. Ah well, Chase made it worth the headache. .::.Nayza.::. Bronze?! Shards, that wasn’t what she’d hoped. Not to be seen the wrong way, Nayza was glad for her friend. But now wither she would have to eat her words when her Liara rose, or train the Green so hard she could: a) somehow over-fly a Bronze – which was impossible – or b) be trained to choose older males than her. Yes, that could work... Maybe. ”Congratulations, Draym! He’s a fine looking Bronze! But that still won’t guarantee he’ll be able to catch Liara when she rises!”

((Yes they are. XDD They're the male version of a Queen, basically, thus referred to as the King of males. :3))

OOC: No, they are not. If you read any of the books, they are referred to as bronzes, and not 'kings'. King is actually not a canon word for Pern, as there are none on the planet.

Fortunately for Kirin there was a brief pause in the eggs hatching which allowed him to keep his attention focused solely on the little blue that he was trying to tempt with his meat. In fact, he was probably a little too focused for when the little creature lept at the food, he jumped slightly but swiftly recovered his composure and grinned as soon as he realised that he had impressed the Miniature Blue. Kirin hurriedly got some more meat for the little beast which he had decided to call Beni for he was obviously still hungry as he sat there, beating his little wings and demanding more. 'Calm down Beni, Calm down.' Kirin said in a soft murmur as he picked up the Blue and began feeding him more until his hearts content. Now if only his luck here would last until the hatching, Kirin would be an even happier man. As Beni began to calm down slightly, it gave him a chance to look at everything else that was going on and he saw that several more had hatched and impressed and that a Gold and a Bronze were still lurking. Oh how fine it would be to possess one of those two elegant creatures... But obviously neither could possibly compare to Beni!
Close by to Kirin, he noticed the boy who had tried to lure away the bronze had managed to impress a brown. The dark hide of the firelizard seemed to contrast greatly with his pale skin which made the candidate smile slightly. "Well done, that sure is a fine looking Brown you have there.'

.::.Keizo.::. ” Well done, that sure is a fine looking Brown you have there.””Mmm? Oh, thank you. Your Blue looks very good and healthy too.”He was caught off-guard as he found himself addressed by another, the dark hued flitt perched on the albino’s shoulder, before snaking his way behind his neck to hide among the luscious strands of silvery white hair. Chase’s dark complexion was a great contrast on Keizo’s skin. Like day and night. From there he poked his head out, taking a small piece of meat every now and then and carefully devouring it – now that his hunger was considerably satiated. That, and Keizo had already warned his new companion to not stain his clothes with meat and blood.

'Oh Thank you very much'
Kirin couldn't help but grin broadly as his little friend was complimented. His mood had now lifted considerably if compared to how it had been prior to the Firelizard hatching, and for poor Keizo this meant that he was prone to talking a fair bit. In his hands he could feel Beni settle down, belly bulging now that his hunger had been sated. It was a glorious feeling, that of the leathery hide against his skin.
'I'm Kirin by the way. I don't think we've spoken before...' He said as he suddenly realised that he did not know Keizo's name so it was obviously best to make amends as soon as possible! Hence the introduction and he gently placed Beni onto his shoulder so that his hands were free and he held one forward, to shake hands if Keizo wished.
Beni seemed to like his new vantage point and scurried from one shoulder to the other and back again, trying to see all that he could before draping himself round the boys neck, eyes keen and watching for the moment.
'That Bronze and Gold are a fine pair, don't you say?' Kirin was just rambling on as he saw fit. And Beni seemed to pick up the desire to talk also as he turned his attention to Chase and chirped quite loudly, and happily in greeting to his sibling.

.::.Keizo.::. Where his new Keeper lacked the flitt seemed to compensate, certainly seeming much more chat full than the albino drudge. As Beni addressed him, chirping loudly, Chase gave a more moderate toned chirp of greetings in return – if only to make sure he didn’t made his Keeper go deaf so soon in life. His eyes whirled in content, and he watched the Blue with interest. This was the first flitt he interacted with – if he dismissed his little collision with the other Brown earlier as they scrambled about in the pot. ” I'm Kirin by the way. I don't think we've spoken before...””Name’s Keizo, and he’s Chase. You’re one of the new Candidates, right? I’m a drudge, probably why we hadn’t been acquainted before.” ” That Bronze and Gold are a fine pair, don't you say?””They look ok, though I do prefer the male colors instead of the females. They’re too broody and over-protective for my liking.”His pink eyes had now turned to the firelizards in the pot, both high ranks alone for now – excluding the company inside the remaining eggs, of course.

Beni was no where near as considerate as Chase, chirping again, almost as loudly as he could. The over-joyed Blue tried to flap his wings in excitement but found his place around Kirins neck kind of prohibited this. If Flitts could frown, then that is exactly what Beni would doing at this precise moment in time. Then, almost as if a light bulb had appeared above his head, the blue suddenly burst into action and moved from the neck and half climbed, half flew onto the top of Kirin's head, leaving a few light scratch marks from his ungainly movements on the boys neck and head. Now from here he could do as he liked and beat his wings wildly. This unfortunately resulted in his tumbling forward, off Kirin's head and if it wasn't for his quick reflexes, there would quite possibly been a Blue splat on the floor. Kirin now cradled the shaken flitt in his hands as he spoke.
'I've been here a little while, a couple of months I believe but they generally keeps us busy with chores and the like so I guess that explains it.... You should come and join us sometime, if you're free that is.' Kirin looked back at the flitts that were still unimpressed now that Beni had calmed down, thinking about what Keizo had said 'Yeah... I guess you're right. Makes me doubly glad to have Beni then.'

[glow=bronze,2,300]H'del[/glow]
H'del wasn't watching for the split second that the little brown took the first piece of meat. He started a little, turning to see what had taken it...finding the little brown with its eyes staring up into his, chirping for more.
H'del smiled and, picking up the little Brown, got out of the way of the others who were more interested in the emerged Gold and Bronze "pair".
" Now little Rave eat up! I know you're hungry." H'del continued to feed Rave until his little stomach bulged out in a hard mass...and the lizard began to drift off to sleep in the crook of H'del's arm.

He grinned at Nayza. " Why don't we move so others can have a better chance eh? And besides," he said as he moved to a table with more scraps to feed Krian, " no matter what you do...he will catch her, because I want him to." he smiled at girl and fire-lizard.
He fed the Bronze some more and offered some to Nayza as he winked at her. " What do you say to that pretty girlie?" he teased.

As Myr handed her the little Green flitt, Freya gathered the little beast to her breast and quickly gave her a piece of meat, quieting her chriping for a moment. "Shhh, little pretty one. Quiet yourself, my darling Moss," she crooned, holding the weak little flitter close to her chest.
She smiled to Ketoh, before feeling Moss slip from her arms up to her shoulder, where the young firelizard tried to perch, but was forced to be moved back to her arms. She nodded to Ketoh and to the young firelizards. "Better hurry," she whispered, grinning. [/sup]

Zorowar had packed. Now he had unpacked...in the Candidate barracks. Right where he really wanted to be. Now, wearing one of his usual high necked tops to hide his scars, the rather 'pretty' fifteen year old made his way into the lower caverns in search of klah...
...only to see a massive gathering of people around...firelizards? "Shards," he said as he approached. "Are there any left, or did I miss it?" He had yet to acquire one of the little creatures...in fact, his quest for one had been repeatedly jinxed. Walking in right after a Hatching would be completely par for his course, he thought with irritation. But yes...there did seem to be a couple left unImpressed.
He grabbed some food from one of the tables and sidled in to join the group of hopefuls with a soft but firm "Excuse me," settling down to see if...was that a gold? He would love a queen firelizard, but really...he would be just as happy with a mere blue. Blue would set off his eyes better. Any firelizard would look good on his shoulder...they were decorative and useful. What more could a boy want? Well...maybe a bronze dragon. Except he did not want to end up weyrleader. Blue would be fine for him in that regard too. He reckoned he liked the ladies too much for a green, but one never knew.
What *would* come out of the purple dragon's clutch?

"They are just tooo cute!" Fhay squealed as the baby fire-lizards wandered about, looking for food and friends. She decided to just watch for a while, and watch what everyone else did, because she had never tried to Impress a fire-lizard before and she didn't want to make a mistake. Sydiana followed suit, too shy to try and compete with the others for the attention of the hatchlings.
"Look, a gold! And a bronze!" She exclaimed, her eyes widening at the sight of the pair. "So go for it!" Fhay commanded, but Syd shook her head, blushing. Fhay scoffed, but she was too enraptured by the flitters to stay annoyed. She waved a meatroll in the general direction of the bronze and gold, letting them decide if they want a bite. "Who's a cute ickle flitter, hmm?" She crooned, and Sydiana rolled her eyes.

The little bronze squealed, trying to draw attention to himself. He stumbled forward a few steps, bumping into his gold sister, before spreading his wings and making at attempt at a firelizardish bellow - which was more of a squeak. Then, seeing meat waggled, he pounced - and landed on Zorowar's hand, reaching down to snatch food from him.
Not to be outdone, the little gold decided that she could no longer ignore the rumbling in her belly by prancing about and trying to look, well, like whatever she looked like. There was something about that someone there waving a meatroll... and forward she charged, wings spread as she snatched at Fhayliassa's food offering, grumbling noisily as she ate that there wasn't quite enough to satisfy her. The greenrider had better have some more somewhere...
More eggs shattered, leaving two greens, a bronze and a blue in the eggpot, trying to shake bits of broken shell from their sticky little figures.
One of the greens dashed forward straight away, following the path taken by the gold only moments before, but a deviation at the last moment leads her to the eye-rolling girl, Sydiana... will you feed me?
Quite lost amongst his sisters, the little blue also made up his mind quickly, darting towards food and finding... Hinuk.
And, not to be outdone by his siblings, the bronze hatchling also found his mate quickly - or should that be food? Either way, the little one dashed forward towards the closest moving, edible thing he could see - Ketoh's food offering. Chomp chomp... can I have some more, please?
And that left just one little green among the eggs, creeling pitifully for food. Who wants to feed me?
