Ala sat at a table, watching Vir munch on his meatroll and occasionally taking a bite of her own. It was lunchtime for the pair, with the dragonriders apparently out training and the weyrlings at their lesson, the cook was taking a break.
Vir gave a surprised chirp as Ala's older brother stumbled into the kitchens. Neither had been expecting him right now. "Everything alright?" Ala asked, tilting her head to inspect A'vic. The bluerider looked just tired basically, his face flushed from the heat outside and working. But the news that Ala had been hearing lately caused her to worry more.
A'vic shrugged as he sat down beside Ala. She offered him a fruit off her plate and rested her elbows on the table while Vir gave A'vic a greeting nuzzle. The little flitt didn't seem too worried, so hopefully she wouldn't need to either.

Terlara made her way into the kitchens. So far, the tiny candidate had escaped the sickness that was circulating within the Weyr. So far. She glanced around...ah, the cook was on break. She wandered over, "Is there anything I can snag? I missed lunch..."
...for various reasons that had mostly involved being completely distracted by watching one of the wings of dragonriders drill above the bowl. She wanted her dragon, but it was likely to be a while.

Ala looked up at the girl in surprise. "Oh, of course. We have plenty..." She stood, gave her brother an anxious glance, and then hurried to where they had stored lunch's leftovers. "What do you want anyways?" Without waiting for an answer she began putting food onto a large plate. Vir left A'vic to fly over and watch His work, occasionally reaching forward to snag something for himself. The little Bronze was a fast eater.
A'vic looked up at the Candidate too, though briefly. Resting his cheek on one hand, he held up the fruit Ala had given him in the other and started eating it. There was very little that could distract the Bluerider from food.
I am hungry too Mine, Yaphorath commented, Maybe I can go hunting when you are done? Or will we have to return to work?
If I'm feeling better we'll go back to the practice, A'vic mentally sighed, If not, you can hunt. He had never understood why Yaphorath didn't want to hunt without his rider there to watch.

Terlara considered. "Just...like, a meatroll will do me fine. And if there's any redfruit around?" Her stomach rumbled a bit, complaining about the lateness. "Thank you," she told the lower caverns worker. Vir got her attention, she watched the bronze firelizard for a moment, then smiled at his owner.
She should try and get herself one of those one of these days, she thought. They were useful critters.

Ala raised her eyebrows but did as the Candidate asked and returned to the table with the plate she had grabbed looking rather forlorn with only a meatroll and a redfruit on it. "Here." Vir noticed His had walked away again and gave a flustered chirp as he hurried to join Ala as she sat down again next to A'vic.
"Are you sure you're okay?" She asked softly.
A'vic gave an annoyed huff and nodded. "Yes, it's just sharding hot out there." Seeing as Ala seemed to have forgotten her meal to pay attention to her brother, Vir grabbed a meatroll off the plate and cheerfully began eating it.

Terlara began to munch. She'd been accused of eating like a bird before...it was, perhaps, her small size. Her mother was just the same way, even when flying fall. "Sorry. I...never eat much lunch." She was embarrassed now. "Especially when it's this hot."
Now she felt bad about making the woman move for such a little meal.

Ala shrugged. "It's fine. The heat always puts a damper on my appetite too, although A'vic only eats more." She smiled teasingly at her brother. Her food seemed forgotten, by Ala at least, as she seemed to have a lesser ability of feeding on conversation as easily as meatrolls and fruits. Vir was happy to take advantage of this, and if A'vic were feeling better he probably would have too.
He only rolled his eyes in reply and continued munching on his fruit. Yaphorath rumbled from his perch, heard only by A'vic. The Blue seemed to find entertainment in anything.

Terlara nodded. "Yeah. It gets way too hot sometimes, but what can we do?"
They couldn't even go somewhere colder, with there being no other human settlement...and the north Threadbared by all accounts. She shook her head. She was alive, and she would eventually have her dragon...a blue was what she hoped for, but she knew better than to be picky.

"Not much I guess, unless we found out how to make our own breezes." Ala smirked and picked up a redfruit from her plate, if only to inspect it rather than eat. Vir finished his meatroll and leapt into the air, moving to hover just above Ala so that the wind from his wings showered her. She shooed him away with a whisk of her hand. "Not like that, little love," she laughed, stroking the Bronze as he landed again.
A'vic even smiled slightly at Vir. The fire lizard seemed to take after His; he enjoyed joking around. "You could go swimming," he commented. That was always a good way to cool down- especially when you first get out of the water and feel like you're suddenly freezing to death...
You don't freeze to death between, Yaphorath reminded A'vic, You couldn't freeze to death just from being a little wet- especially with the sun above you. What was it about dragons that made them always feel the need to comment on how nothing could possibly be as cold as between and chide people for calling anything cold?
A'vic chuckled softly. People have been known to.
Then they are weak. Yaphorath snorted.

"Swimming is good," Terlara agreed, more cheerfully now. She laughed. "Silly firelizard. Cute, though...but they all are."
Of course, her focus was on...when would there be a clutch? Not for a while, that was for sure...well. Maybe a purple would fly. Given she wanted a blue, she wouldn't mind standing for one of those cluches...but no, the adult purple had just flown too. She sighed a little.

"Yes, we all love swimming." She smiled and stroked Vir's back. "And they are, aren't they? I love flitts. Maybe sometime I'll get another one." Vir gave a happy chirp- if hoped she would get a female that he could chase. If His had another flitt then he could befriend her and maybe that would make her more likely to let him catch.
"Have you ever considered getting one?" Ala asked the Candidate before finally taking a bite of the fruit in her hand. There weren't many adult females at the Weyr- in fact, she only knew of one- but there were plenty of wild ones outside it. Maybe one could find a clutch buried at the beach.
A'vic rubbed his temples, he was beginning to feel worse rather than better from his rest. That wasn't good. On his ledge outside, Yaphorath mumbled worriedly to himself.

Terlara nodded. "I have, but I haven't been lucky. I'd love a little blue," she admitted. Then she grinned and admitted. "For that matter, I'd love a big blue."
She just saw herself as a bluerider. It felt right. She was, of course, prepared for the dragons having other ideas, but maybe she had guessed right. Or maybe she just wanted to be like her mother.
She munched on her food a little. "When there's a clutch, that is. Which is going to be a while." She could be patient, though. She had to be. She had absolutely no choice.

Ala nodded, but her gaze was focused on A'vic again, worry tinging her expression. He wasn't looking any better... not that he had had much time to get better yet but she still didn't like that. Vir distracted her again as he scuttled up her arm, so her thoughts remained unsaid to him.
"A Blue?" A'vic raised his eyebrows slightly. He supposed it wasn't entirely odd to hear that, but the Bluerider had never heard a girl wanting one before- at least not firsthand. "Bah, you wouldn't want those, they're nothing but trouble." He meant that teasingly of course. A'vic was a Bluerider himself and there was at least a little truth to his statement. Yaphorath, at least, could be troublesome.
Any dragon could be, Yaphorath grumbled defensively. But his voice held a joking tone too- the Blue had never been one to sulk over anything and he knew A'vic was kidding. He simply saw fit to play along.

Terlara laughed. "You're just saying that to give yours a hard time." A pause. "My mother's a bluerider. I *like* blues. And I don't mind if it makes people think I prefer other girls."
Especially as she kind of *did*. Sort of. "But hey...it's up to the dragons, isn't it, not us."

Ala laughed while A'vic only smiled faintly. "Maybe. And who's your mother?" He didn't know many woman Blueriders.... But he wasn't surprised that he didn't know which one had been the mother of this girl. He had never paid a lot of attention to who had what child and so on. Shards, he could even have a kid and not know it.
Ala smirked. "That's just the way to think to get one though, huh A'vic?" His joking had brought her to believe that maybe he was feeling better now. Vir, at least, still didn't seem one bit worried about A'vic. Not that there was any reason for him to really be though...
