Rider A'vic of Blue Yaphorath

The Basics


Where did you hear about Castaway Weyr? From Zen... do we still need this even though the contest is over?

• Name: A'vic

Physical

• Hair: A'vic has thick black hair, cut somewhat short and usually a mess atop his head that looks like flitts have been trying to nest in it.
  
• Eyes: A dark, oceany shade of blue, they are wideset but give him a constantly thoughtful expression.
  
• Height: Very tall, A'vic is nearly 6'6" in height. His powerful build makes him seem even a little larger than he really is.
  
• Weight: 180 lbs...
  
• Defining characteristics: Basically, very tal and well-muscled. His hands are surprisingly slender in comparison, his expression usually gentle. He usually wears a long green tunic, brown pants and wherhide boots. He has a wide jaw and largish nose, a sort of natural explanation for the wide space between his eyes because the bridge of his nose needs to fit inbetween. His lips are thin and always have a dry look to them.

Extra

• Personality: Depsite his build, A'vic is a little shy and would prefer spending most of his time reading. He has always seen ending up with Yaphorath as a bit of a mistake, much as he loves the dragon, because the dragon is his complete opposite. The Blue does everything he can to bring out any outgoing-ness in A'vic.
  It is usually easy to find A'vic pouring over old hides, whenever he's missing that's where one can find him. (Unless Yaphorath is missing too... then you ask the dragon.) But although he has a sort of reclusive personality A'vic usually gets along well with anyone easily enough. He just doesn't talk a lot, which can get on those who seem against shutting up's nerves. =P

• History: A'vic grew up in a small, fairly out-of-the-way home. It came as a huge shock to all when a Green Searchdragon appeared in front of the house. The rider apparently had not planned on coming here, but had hurt his arm and was hoping for some assisance. A'vic's father knew a little about healing and was able to bind it up- the injury turned out being a very minor fracture. During the stay, the Green decided that A'vic would probably make a very good Candidate for the soon-to-hatch clutch.
  A'vic argued, he liked it here and did not want to leave. His little sister Ala, on the other hand, really wanted to go and begged to go in her older brother's place. After explaining that picking Candidates really didn't work that way, the rider made a deal that if A'vic would only come with then he would bring Ala down too- not as a Candidate but just to be among Weyrfolk- and that if he didn't Impress at this clutch then he could go back home. Ala begged A'vic to agree, and finally he gave in. He was eighteen at the time, Ala twelve.
  So off they went to the Weyr. The clutch hatched late in the afternoon, and led to a steely-blue dragon tackling him in almost the same movement of bursting from its egg and announcing, A'vic! My A'vic! Yaphorath claims you for his own! Now feed me!
  
  A’vic and Yaphorath’s life as a Weyrling was overall uneventful, other than the dragonet getting in trouble occasionally for snatching food from his fellows. Ala did everything she could to help and is probably almost as close to the dragon as A’vic is. She helped in oiling and bathing and whatever else the dragonet decided he needed whenever she had the time.
  
  Finally the dragon grew old and large enough to take to the skies with A’vic on his back. Although the Pass had been over for some time now and wasn’t supposed to return for a while either, the new riders were trained in a variety of Thread-fighting maneuvers. A disobedient Blue, Yaphorath far from excelled at this.
  
  Once he was old enough, Yaphorath became an avid Green-chaser, causing A’vic no end of stress as that was the last thing he wanted. Luckily, most Greens seemed deterred by the Blue and so of all his attempts, Yaphorath has only flown with one dragon. A’vic’s life has had little excitement other than that so far- just a lot of Ala begging him for rides on Yaphorath and continuing his constant search for new things to learn.
