Name: Kirin
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Rank: Candidate
Physical: Kirin is fairly lanky youth, all in all, having hit a growth spurt a turn or so ago but has yet to build up the muscles to fill out his taller frame which currently stands at 5‘11“. He is still growing and almost certainly will end up at being over six foot tall before he stops growing completely. This height appears to be mainly due his noticeably long legs and his long, slender neck (Not that his torso appears to be short in comparison). It is primarily due to his long neck that Kirin has developed a certain fondness for wearing high collared, button-up shirts, though the colour and how vibrant a tone these are tend to reflect his initial mood when getting dressed. Kirin is, at times, possibly under weight but is more often than not around average, with his weight tending to fluctuate between 9 and 11 stone, though usually it largely balances out at an average of about 10. As he grows and his muscles develop more, his average weight is likely to increase, or so he likes to hope as he dislikes being so skinny.
His skin is lightly tanned, and is a light smattering of freckles across his nose, upper cheeks and forehead. During the winter, these all but fade into obscurity but come back with a vengeance if Kirin spends any amount of time in the bright sun. When he smiles, Kirin get small dimples in his cheeks. Also there is slight gap between his two front teeth which, when he notices it, bugs him but he tends to promptly forget about it again.
Kirin’s eyes are steel blue-grey in colour and almond in shape. If truth be told, Kirin has a slight astigmatism in his left eye which, while not affecting his everyday life, does occasionally cause him to fatigue slightly quicker then others or get headaches from time to time. However, his male pride usually leads to his refusing to admit that there could possibly be a problem and opts to work through it all, even if it has a negative affect on his mood and leaves him worn out by the end of the day.
A shaggy russet mess would be the most accurate way in which to describe Kirin’s hair. It’s a good few inches long all over with the exception of the fringe which he felt the need to cut because it kept always falling into his eyes. It is reasonably thick with a very slight curl which leads to tufts to frequently flick out. Due to it’s wholly unmanageable nature, he usually leaves in it’s tousled, ‘just-got-out-of-bed’ state unless it is truly terrible or there is some special occasion for which he will make an effort to at least tame it; for a short while at the very least. In colour, it is a light chestnutty brown which tends to appear more red in bright light but due to his love of the word, Kirin likes to call it Russet.
Personality: On the whole, I find it easier to just let this come out in a RP but basically Kirin is of about average intelligence, terribly capricious and whimsical and can be a little amoral at times (As shown in his history). When he puts his mind to it, he can work hard and well but is possibly a little too prone to day dreaming or procrastination for it to last long. He has a great liking for words and a certain disdain for anything vaguely mathematical. Kirin is a reasonably sociable person does have his off days where he is likely to wonder off on his own. When he comes to be friends with someone, he is loyal to them and will do almost anything for them but enjoys winding them up when possible too. When bored, he has the unfortunate habit of arguing for the sake of it, taking the opposing view to someone simply because he can, not because he believes it to be true. Kirin is generally a happy and optimistically chap, even if fairly ditzy at times but he generally just likes to enjoy life to the fullest.
History: Kirin was born into a large and crowded family. He had four older siblings (3 brothers, one sister) when he was born into the world and over the next couple of turns he ended up with another two sisters. His parents obviously were very busy. He grew up in a large house, or rather two houses that were next to each and had been connected to one another, with his parents and siblings, grandparents and his uncles comparitably small family (They only had two children). It was safe to say it was a fairly cramped up-bringing and lacked privacy almost completely. The house was always full of noise and activity as people came and went, bickered and argued, and what ever else it was that went on in such a close-knit family like theirs.
Kirin's father was a blacksmith, as was his uncle and they worked together to run their business with the aid of Kirin's two eldest brothers. While Smithing was the main source of income for them, the elder females of the family also did their part by either weaving or working at the Lord holders place.
Due to all this chaos, Kirin had little time with his parents but still they tried to find time to spend with their all children individually as they grew up. However, as Kirin grew older, tensions between him and his father grew as his was the most effeminate and unruly of all the sons, showing absolutely no interesting in being a blacksmith or any other kind of 'proper' work as his father liked to put it. A part of Kirin had always dreamed of going to Harper hall, or becoming a Dragonrider. If his father ever heard such silly talk it would often result in a clout round the ear and a lecture about how he should do something useful with his life and not waste it on day-dreams.
All of this culminated in Kirin spend vast amounts of time exploring the hold and the surrounding country-side, doing odd jobs for anyone who needed them and socialising with other youths of the hold. He quickly became the most sociable of all of siblings, most likely due to his being far less family orientated then most of them. Now while his parents did not approve of all his coming and goings, they realised that there was little they could do about it now (as he was about 15 turns at this point) so they made a deal, that as long as he managed to contribute a certain amount of money a week to the house hold, he was free to do as he pleased which was more freedom than any of his brothers and sisters got, not that they especially wanted it. He leapt at the offer most eagerly and from then on only returned home to eat and sleep.
At no point did he settle on one permanent job or trade, preferring to do odd jobs to earn his keep. If that didn’t seem likely to yield enough money, he would occasionally resort to pick pocketing the visitors and traders who passed through the hold on a regular basis. He only got caught once and learnt never to again from the hiding his father gave him once he’d heard about his sons wrong doing. Kirin had a pretty wild turn or two, doing as be pleased with his friends in the hold and having a few light-hearted flings with who ever took his fancy and reciprocated his lustful feelings. It was fun and he didn’t have a care in the world.
And then his friends began to disperse and settle down, either getting married or properly learning a honest trade. Kirin was one of the most resistant to this but as the time passed he began to calm down. By the time he was seventeen, there was only a few of his friends left and he had managed to get a job with a Cooper.
As word of the most recent Dragon clutches spread from hold to hold, person to person like wildfire, Kirin’s previous dreams of being a Dragonrider resurfaced once again. Kirin could only hope that their hold would be visited by the riders, that he would be searched. Although his more rational self always took over as these day dreams were about to take off into the realms of complete fantasy as he reminded himself that it was highly unlikely that he would be picked and that it would be silly to waste a good job for such fancies.
However, Kirin’s whimsical nature go the better of him and when he heard news that the Dragon riders had indeed come to his hold he promptly ditched his work with a flimsy excuse in order to go and see a dragon. His employer could only laugh as he watched the eager youth run off, knowing that no work would be gotten out of him if he was kept away from the draconic beast. After taking a few shortcuts, Kirin soon reached the main square where a crowd of like-minded people had gathered. The boy was awestruck as he look up at the Brown and Blue dragons which were currently perched on two of the Holds towers. Was it his imagination or was had the blue turned his wedge shaped head in his direction? Oh what wishful thinking that was for there was a good few dozen people milling about right now. Kirin turned his attention from the dragons to see if he could spot their riders who had to be around here somewhere.
Then, when a hand suddenly touched his shoulder, Kirin almost jumped out of his skin with a very unmanly squeal of surprise. As he quickly turned, Kirin was surprised to see a woman dressed in what he believe to be a riders gear and much to his embarrassment she was laughing at how much he had been startled. He felt his cheeks suddenly becoming very flushed and thus averted his eyes from the woman as he greeted her and Introduced himself in a fairly mumbley, stuttery manner entirely unlike his usual self.
After a brief conversation it was ascertained that she was the rider of the fine Blue that he had spied on the tower, that he believe that Kirin would make a suitable candidate and that of course Kirin would absolutely love to go and be a candidate at Castaway Weyr.
And so came the end of his time at his home hold. After a quick farewell to the family and friends that he could located swiftly, he was whisked away to Castaway Weyr. Kirin couldn’t help relishing in getting to rider a dragon, to feel the leathery hide, to get a chance to impress his own! Once there, he was a little surprised at how…average it was for the time being but work hard on his chores none the less and waiting for the day where one (or both) clutches hatched.
Sexual orientation: Bisexual, quite possibly leaning slightly towards men.
Dragon:Green Dzilyath (chill-yath)
Dragon Appearance: Cold, icy green, with an almost glittering hide in certain places, especially across her back and 'ridges. Dzilyath is fairly small, only being 10 meters in length.
Now I shall give fudge to all who managed to wade through my thoroughly waffely bio. =D
