Bellum omnium contra omnes
1. A Latin phrase, obsolete on Pern.
2. the nature of humanity.
3. the war of all against all.
Towards the end of the Second Pass, two girls fell in love with the same boy. They drifted apart during their Candidacy at High Reaches. One Impressed a queen; the other later force-Impressed a blue. The shock of the latter's actions - and the possibilities thereof - rocked Pern. The Weyrs grew divided over their attitudes towards it, divisions that worsened when the same queen Weyrling later ascended to Weyrwomanship and the first female bluerider transferred to Fort and attained Weyrsecondship in short order. Disagreements and ill feeling raged high as the newly-made Weyrsecond used her position to divide High Reaches and Fort.
The Weyrs drifted apart. Tensions struck an all-time high as the time for Thread to fall again came and went. Unaware of the existence of Long Intervals, many declared that Thread would never fall again and adjusted their lives accordingly. Others were furious at their Holds' refusal to tithe, and their reactions further distanced the Weyrs. Each continued to stew in their beliefs until beliefs became prejudices, and prejudices gathered into something paralleling the nationalism of Earth.
Nearly four hundred and fifty Turns after the last Threadfall, an overbloated Ista begged High Reaches and Benden to allow transfers. Viewed as looking for excuses to plant spies, they were refused. Deciding to force the issue, they sent a contigent of riders to Benden, whose clutches had fallen to a population of barely a hundred,. The Istan transfers - mostly young and inexperienced - went with flamethrowers. Misunderstandings ensued, and all Benden riders were killed. The riders from Ista nearly went mad from overexposure to dragon deaths.
Istan leadership, however, approved of the overall result. They sent a more organized group to Igen, who offered a choice of death or surrender to the Istans. An overwhelming majority swore allegiance rather than die. Thus, their conquest continued, spreading to Fort, Telgar, and the High Reaches. But though the brief holocaust was over, the revolution was only beginning...
Saresa, a back-stabbing gold Weyrling, was the first of the High Reaches to ally herself with the Istans. Over a Turn, she gathered supporters. And what she proposed to them was this: without riders enough to attack Ista head-on, they would retreat to the Southern Continent, to breed and grow until their ranks are great enough to conquer Ista in turn. Aided by the information from a very reluctant Fort rider, the rebels fled several Turns into the past to build their Weyr... and to grow.
Once in the south, in order to establish control of their own fates, the Weyr population established a council to co-run the Weyr with the Weyrwoman - but it has turned corrupt. The two major Holds have been driven to war by a mix of personal and political affairs. The Istans have discovered Yung's position on the Southern Continent, and have arrived to rectify their mistake of so many Turns ago.
And, of course, Thread has started to fall...
Info: It's been established for well over three years and covers both Weyr, Hold, Harper and Healer Halls - among other roleplayable areas that most sites conveniently leave out. PC Threadfall is scheduled once every month.
At present, we have adoptable Weyrlings with detailed dragon descriptions tailored to the character you submit, a forthcoming dragon clutch, and a rising green. And, of course, this doesn't even count the greenriders who woe about never getting dates, the endless love octangles (is that even a word?), the mystery of the murdered bronzerider, and the Candidate pranks that are growing dark.
In addition, with our unique politics, we have elections for Weyr Council coming up. A mix of other things are available, too: another flight for Weyrleadership, the twistiest heist ever to hit Pern, promotional opportunities within wings, a forthcoming clutch, a Gather currently running, the ex-Weyrleader (revealed as Istan) on trial, and many, many love triangles.
Love. Danger. Activity. What more could you ask for?
Atmosphere: We're active enough to have several plots running on at once, and more planned if there's enough interest. And there usually is -- the roleplayers at Yung can make virtually anyone feel included. We like talking loudly about a variety of different mangas, movies and shows (Loveless, V for Vendetta, and House M.D. are current favorites), shrieking through the body count of books like A Song of Ice And Fire, and, in our spare time, maniacally refreshing the Random Kitten Generator (www.randomkittengenerator.com).
As to character suggestions - we love characters of all shapes, sizes, and ranks. Nearly all positions are open to consideration. The chances of being accepted with a male character are considerably higher than female. At the moment, however, both are being considered. Istan transfers in particular are wonderful - email yungweyr@gmail.com if you're interested and we can talk out the details of your application to make sure you get through!
Of course, mostly we're just looking for members to be active, creative, and canon with us. And yes, it can be that simple.
